Michigan Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib on Wednesday introduced a bill to ban the purchase of automated mass surveillance systems, such as license plate readers like Flock.

Flock cameras have become controversial in communities across Michigan. Lawmakers in Lansing and Washington D.C. are eying new regulations. On Tuesday morning Oct. 13, Inkster officials gathered in the City Council chambers to explain that they are all in on Flock camera technology as part of what they call Safe City Inkster.

Madison Heights announced Oct. 11 that it would end its relationship with the company. The village of Milford also voted unanimously earlier this month not to renew its contract, with plans to remove its remaining 10 cameras.
